Plumbing Nightmares!

All the parts for the fuel pump had arrived and I needed to decide what fittings we would need to connect the fuel tank to the carburetor via the new fuel pump. After trying a rough mock up in the car I noted down what I thought would be required and then jumped in the car for a trip to Lister Motorsport in Oldbury in the West Midlands. Just for good measure I took the pump, filter and spare fittings I had to try and avoid buying things I didn’t need.

Once at Lister’s we laid everything out and the ever helpful guy’s had me sorted in double quick time. Darren at Lister’s knows his stuff and I ended up with a better solution than I originally envisaged and at reasonable cost: Result!

So what have we ended up with? Well, because of the lack of space making everything as compact as possible is a prime requirement. We have eliminated the flexible hose all together and have plumped for solid 90 degree fittings. This is about as effective a use of space as we can get. Take a look at the picture below and you’ll see what I mean.

Now all that is left to do is make up the brackets to fix it to the car. One of the issues we have created is that we need to support all of the fittings for the fuel pump otherwise the vibration may fracture the 90 degree fittings.

So it looks like we are nearly there as far as the fuel system is concerned, however, this means that we miss another meeting at Shakespeare County Raceway this weekend which is frustrating, but we should be in better shape when we finally do get out this year. Hopefully we get to fire Andromeda up at the weekend!
